What is Periodontics?
If you were referred to us by your general dentist, you may be wondering, what exactly is periodontics? Periodontics is a specialization within the field of dentistry that is largely concerned with the supporting structures of the teeth, collectively known as the periodontium. The periodontium includes the alveolar bone, gingiva (gums), periodontal ligament, and cementum. Periodontists work to diagnose, treat, prevent, and manage periodontal diseases, as well as the placement of dental implants.
